from one crop economy to a diversified one, whose products could be used

as lubricants, plastics, dyes, medicines and other essential uses. The FDIC

cover is post marked; Tuskegee Institute, Alabama on Jan. 5, 1948.

and to salute its new role as a rocket testing area.  Central to the design is a captured

German V-2 rocket at lift-off.  This is the first United States postage stamp showing

a rocket or hinting of the space age to come. Post marked at El Paso, TEX. on Nov. 5, 1948.
